Sony has worked with cinematography professionals to develop high-performance cinema cameras to support creative challenges, minimising resource usage, weight and size, while maintaining superb quality and durability even in the harshest environments.
Sony's Global environmental plan, "Road to Zero" has a clear goal: to achieve a zero environmental footprint by 2050. With BURANO, we have taken a step toward this goal by adopting moulded pulp cushions made from recycled paper as an alternative to plastic styrofoam cushioning materials in product packaging. Professional equipment, being large and heavy and requiring high reliability, demands packaging materials that ensure product quality. To meet these requirements, we ran simulations and refined the accuracy of evaluations on actual products. Through close collaboration between packaging and product teams, we achieved excellent product quality assurance.
After much trial and error within the team, we successfully optimised the shape of the moulded pulp cushions and the structure of the outer box, creating packaging that minimises the use of plastic while reliably ensuring product quality. Building on this experience, we will actively explore the adoption of moulded pulp cushions for other professional camera product lines in the future.
